Man, like the bridge, was designed to carry the load of the moment, not the combined weight of a year at once.

Grummitt Planning Newsletter - Birth of the Planning Act
Some of you may be aware of changes to the Integrated Planning Act foreshadowed yesterday by the Minister for Infrastructure and Planning following adoption by Cabinet of the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 and its upcoming of tabling in Parliament.
Some of the changes include ‘Deemed Approvals’ in certain instances where decisions are not made in the nominated timeframes, ‘Compliance Assessments’ where developments are assessed for compliance with planning schemes and are turned around within a week. It also contains provisions that will give local authorities greater powers to stop work on development.
The minister’s statement said that the new bill is intended to be ‘Outcome driven’ rather than the “Process driven” outcomes which have resulted under IPA.
The intent of the Act is to speed up approval processes and timeframes, so we can live in hope that it will be able to deliver.
As always, the devil is in the detail and we await the details of the Bill to see what that contains.
I trust that this is useful for you and we will advise further information as it becomes available.
